I’m sure you have all seen the Laurel dress pattern from Colette Patterns at this point but if you haven’t check it out! It’s a simple shift dress pattern with an accompanying free ebook with embellishment and detail ideas. As well as this generous addition Colette Patterns are also hosting an amazing challenge! There is $2000 in prizes going to winners of six different categories. I already have a lot on my plate but I hope to get my Elisalex finished for the most part this weekend. I figure I can fit Colette Patterns Laurel in as well! Yes… I have broken my ban on buying new patterns but this was too good to pass up. Check out the details of the challenge and consider taking part yourself. The pattern is easy so if you’re a beginner it should be a great pattern to try.
Sarai has designed the dress so that the darts shape the dress to fit the curves of the body instead of looking like a sack. This is important to me because I often feel that I cannot wear dresses that are too boxy. I need something to emphasize the waist or shoulders to balance me out since I have larger hips. I am hoping though that with careful fitting and embellishments I can create a comfortable dress I truly love to wear.
Here are some ideas and inspiration I have found so far:
